There is a new movement in town! More people want to save on car rentals so they are utilizing other options, when traveling to another city. One of the best options is an app called TURO. It allows people to save more but also gives people the opportunity to rent out cars they normally wouldn’t. For example, you can rent a Maserati Ghibli for $149/day vs $299/day from the usual car rental company. The first time I heard about it was through my son who was a junior in high school at the time. He told me that some of his friends were looking into a luxury sports car for prom, so I checked out the app. I was impressed with the prices and since then I’ve never used the traditional car rental company. My secondary option, while in a different city, is getting rides through a rideshare app.
The other things offered are free delivery by the host (vehicle owner) and first time customer discounts of 20%. Some offer to pick you up at the nearest airport and drop you off upon return and some will deliver to your home or hotel. It’s the new and best way to rent a car easily. You do however, need to be approved as a driver or host. You need to provide information on the app to ensure you are who you are and validate your existence. Normal protocol for best practices of course.
Insurance is optional and no pressure. Although I would not suggest you ever go without insurance, it is entirely up to you to decline AND with no pressure.
There is no deposit required. I know in the past, whenever I rented a car, the rental company would put a $300 hold on my credit card along with the cost of the rental. With Turo, you only pay for what you use.
It is up to the host to have a minimal rental time frame but a lot of the hosts on this app allow for one day rentals. So imagine being able to rent a Porsche or Maserati for a day, for a special occasion or while you are in town for business, at a fraction of the cost?!
